Every year nearly 50 billion litres of road fuel are consumed in the UK. The resulting carbon emissions account for around one fifth of the UK's total annual emissions.
In response to the significant threat posed by climate change, the UK has national and international commitments to substantially reduce its carbon emissions and to increase the use of renewable energy, including in transport.
The Renewable Fuels Agency's report includes verified data comparing the carbon and sustainability performance of individual fuel suppliers. This is the first time that data of this sort has been published anywhere in the world.
Harvest Energy had the highest verified green house gas (GHG) emission savings of any oil company in the UK, and are actively avoiding certain Biofuels with poor GHG performance under the RTFO guidelines. In addition, only 2% of Harvest Energy's bio fuels derived from palm oil, the lowest of all of the oil companies in the UK.
For the future, Harvest Energy is working with their supply streams to demonstrate agricultural and processing practices that improve their GHG performance.
